Digital Marketing for Persian-Owned Businesses in Vancouver
How Persian-owned businesses in Metro Vancouver can reach both Farsi-speaking and English-speaking customers online: websites, Google, ads and social.

Metro Vancouver is home to one of the largest Iranian-Canadian communities in the country, with a strong presence in North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Coquitlam and beyond. Persian-owned restaurants, bakeries, clinics, real estate agencies, law firms, contractors and shops serve both the Farsi-speaking community and the wider Vancouver market.
That creates a unique marketing opportunity — and a unique challenge: how do you reach both audiences without confusing either? As a bilingual digital marketer, this is a question I’m asked often. Here’s a practical approach.
Start with your audience mix
Ask two questions:
- What share of your customers prefer Farsi, and what share prefer English?
- Which audience do you want to grow?
A Persian bakery in North Vancouver may serve mostly Farsi-speaking customers but want more English-speaking ones. A Persian-owned accounting firm may want new immigrants who prefer to speak Farsi. Your answer shapes everything below.
Your website: one site, two languages done properly
If both audiences matter, a bilingual website is usually the best solution:
- Separate URLs for each language, for example
/fa/for Farsi pages, rather than mixing both languages on one page. - Right-to-left layout for Farsi pages, with a font that renders Persian text clearly.
- hreflang tags so Google shows the right language version to each searcher.
- A clear language switcher at the top of every page.
- Real translation, written for the audience — not machine translation pasted unchanged.
If you can only start with one language, start with English for broader reach in Google, and add key Farsi pages (services, contact, FAQ) next. If you’re planning a new site, read how to choose a web designer.
Google Business Profile
Your profile shows up when people search in either language. Use your official business name, choose accurate categories, add photos and encourage reviews from all customers. You can mention that you speak Farsi in your description — many customers search specifically for this.
Google Search and Google Ads
People search for Persian businesses in both languages — “Persian restaurant North Vancouver” in English, or the same search in Farsi. Cover both:
- Optimise English pages for English searches and Farsi pages for Farsi searches.
- In Google Ads, you can target users whose language is set to Persian and write ads in Farsi, or run separate English campaigns. Keep each campaign’s ads and landing pages in the same language. My local Google Ads guide explains location settings.
Social media and messaging
Instagram is especially popular among Farsi-speaking audiences, and many customers prefer to message on platforms such as Instagram or WhatsApp. Make sure someone responds quickly. Bilingual captions can work well, but consider separate posts if one language would make captions too long. My digital marketing strategy guide shows how social fits into the bigger picture.
Community and partnerships
Community events, cultural celebrations such as Nowruz, local Persian media and community organisations are great ways to build awareness and earn links and mentions — which also help your SEO.
Email marketing in Canada: follow CASL
Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) applies to commercial emails and text messages. In general, you need consent before sending marketing messages, must identify your business clearly and must include an easy way to unsubscribe. Check the official CASL guidance for details, and make sure your emails are authenticated so they don’t land in spam — see why business emails go to spam.
Common mistakes
- Machine-translated Farsi that reads awkwardly to native speakers.
- Mixing English and Farsi on the same page, which confuses both readers and search engines.
- Relying only on Instagram and word of mouth, with no website or Google presence.
- Ads in one language that lead to a landing page in another.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a separate website for Farsi?
No. One website with properly structured language versions is usually easier to manage and better for SEO.
Will Farsi content help my Google rankings?
It helps you rank for Farsi searches. It won’t directly improve English rankings, but it can bring more customers and reviews, which support your overall visibility.
Can you help in Farsi?
Yes — I work in both English and Persian, so we can discuss your project in whichever language you prefer. Learn more about working with a Persian-speaking web designer in Vancouver.
