Custom Software & App Development Vancouver
Custom software is software built around how your business actually works, instead of forcing your team to work around a generic tool. I build web applications, client portals, dashboards, internal tools, integrations and mobile-friendly apps for businesses in Vancouver and across Canada. Whatever software or tool you need, we can build it.
Behnam Dehghan is a Vancouver software engineer and digital marketer specialising in home services and trades businesses. I hold a Master’s degree in Software Engineering and a Bachelor’s in Information Technology, and I have 14 years of experience building for the web. For larger builds I work with a small team, but you deal with me directly from first conversation to launch.
What I build
Web applications
Browser-based applications that your team or customers log into: booking systems, quoting tools, inventory trackers, intake forms with logic, or anything else that is currently held together by spreadsheets and email.
Client portals
A secure place where customers can view quotes, approve work, upload photos or documents, pay invoices through your payment provider and track progress. For contractors and renovation companies, a portal can replace dozens of back-and-forth emails per project.
Dashboards and reporting
Dashboards that pull data from your CRM, accounting software, Google Ads, Google Analytics 4 and call tracking into one view, so you can see leads, jobs and revenue trends without logging into five systems.
Internal tools
Small, focused tools that save hours every week: job checklists, technician reports, estimate calculators, document generators and approval workflows.
API integrations
Connecting systems that do not talk to each other out of the box. That might be your website forms to your CRM, your job-management software to your accounting tool, or a supplier feed to your website. I work with REST APIs, webhooks and, where needed, scheduled scripts.
Mobile apps and progressive web apps
A progressive web app (PWA) is a website that installs on a phone like an app, works well on mobile networks and can send notifications. For many businesses it is a faster and more affordable route than separate iOS and Android apps. When a native-style mobile app is the right answer, I can build that too.
Automation scripts
Python and JavaScript scripts that handle repetitive data work: cleaning up exports, generating reports, renaming and filing documents, or syncing records overnight. These often pair with AI automation when there is text or documents to interpret.
Software for home services and trades
Trades businesses often run on a mix of job-management software, spreadsheets, paper forms and phone calls. Off-the-shelf platforms such as Jobber, ServiceTitan and Housecall Pro handle a lot, but there are usually gaps. Custom work I build for this niche includes:
- Online quote and estimate builders that collect the right job details up front
- Booking tools tied to service areas and technician availability
- Customer portals with project photos, change orders and approvals
- Integrations that send website, chat and ad leads straight into your job-management system
- Dashboards that connect marketing spend to booked jobs
- Technician-friendly mobile forms for site notes, photos and checklists
For marketing that brings in the leads these tools manage, see home services marketing and the pages for HVAC, plumbing, renovation contractors, electricians and construction.
Technology
I choose the stack based on the project, not habit. Common choices include:
| Area | Typical tools |
|---|---|
| Back end | Python, JavaScript / Node.js, PHP |
| Front end | Modern JavaScript frameworks, responsive HTML and CSS |
| Databases | PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite |
| Integrations | REST APIs, webhooks, n8n, Make, Zapier |
| AI | OpenAI, Anthropic Claude and Google Gemini APIs |
| Hosting | Managed cloud hosting suited to the project’s size |
You own the code and the data. I document what I build so another developer could pick it up if needed.
How a project works
- Discovery: we talk through the problem, who will use the software and what success looks like.
- Scope and quote: I write a clear scope with a fixed, transparent quote. Larger projects can be split into phases so you see value early.
- Prototype: you see working screens early and give feedback before the full build.
- Build and test: development with regular check-ins and testing on real devices.
- Launch and training: deployment, handover documentation and a walkthrough for your team.
- Support: ongoing maintenance, security updates and improvements as your needs change.
Build or buy?
Custom software is not always the right answer. If an existing tool does 90 percent of what you need, I will usually recommend it and build only the missing piece, such as an integration or a small add-on. Custom builds make the most sense when your process is a real competitive advantage, when you are paying for several tools that each half-solve the problem, or when your team wastes hours on manual data entry.

FAQ
How much does custom software cost?
It depends on scope. I provide a fixed, transparent quote after discovery, and can break larger projects into phases.
Do I own the code?
Yes. You own the code and your data, and I provide documentation so you are not locked in.
Can you work with my existing software?
Usually, yes. Most modern tools offer APIs or integrations, and I check what is possible before quoting.
Should I build a mobile app or a progressive web app?
For many small businesses a PWA is faster and more affordable and works on every phone. I will recommend a native-style app only when the project genuinely needs it.
Do you support software after launch?
Yes. I offer ongoing maintenance, updates and improvements.
